A charming vintage Royal Worcester “Forty Winks” collector plate, featuring heart-warming artwork by British wildlife artist Pam Cooper.
The scene depicts a sleeping Basset Hound puppy surrounded by curious ducklings in a peaceful spring meadow. One duckling rests on the puppy’s back, another shelters beneath its long ear, while two more sit together among yellow wildflowers, daisies and cowslips.
Produced in 1990 from Royal Worcester fine bone china, the plate was commissioned by Compton & Woodhouse to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the RSPCA. The reverse carries the title and a short verse:
“It’s warm and it’s safe
and it’s cosy in here
I’m so glad my new friend
has such a big ear”
A fine gold-coloured rim frames the softly painted countryside scene. The combination of a sleeping puppy, ducklings and spring flowers gives the plate strong appeal for dog lovers, bird collectors and admirers of traditional English wildlife art.
The plate has factory-made hanging holes on the reverse and is ready to be displayed using a suitable plate wire or stand.

The plate appears to be in good vintage display condition, retaining its detailed illustration, glossy finish and gold-coloured rim. No chips, cracks or repairs are visible in the supplied photographs. Light surface or display-related marks may be present, and reflections across the glaze make extremely fine scratches difficult to assess fully. There are some small marks and light storage wear visible on the reverse. The hanging holes are part of the original manufacture. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description and show the exact plate that will be received.
