A vintage Danish porcelain collector plate entitled Han Vokser Sig Køn, meaning approximately He Will Grow Up Handsome, featuring detailed storybook artwork by Karen Jean Bornholt.
Issued in 1985 by Grande København – Porcelain of Denmark, this is the second plate in the Den Grimme Ælling, or The Ugly Duckling, series inspired by the classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
The softly coloured design depicts the young white swan swimming among ducklings in a peaceful woodland pond. Two older birds watch from an overhanging branch, while reeds, trailing roots, flowers and aquatic plants create an intricately detailed natural setting.
The reverse identifies this example as hand-numbered plate 8281A. It also confirms the title, artist, year, position within the series and production as a limited edition restricted to a maximum of 50 firing days.
The plate has factory-pierced hanging holes on the reverse, allowing it to be fitted with a suitable wire for wall display. Original Grande København paperwork, including the numbered certificate, is included as shown.

The factory-pierced hanging holes on the reverse are part of the original manufacture. The accompanying paper documents show light handling, creasing and storage wear consistent with age.
