A vintage Danish porcelain collector plate entitled Han Er Ikke Som De Andre, meaning He Is Not Like the Others, featuring artwork by Karen Jean Bornholt.
Issued in 1985 by Grande København – Porcelain of Denmark, this was the first plate in the Den Grimme Ælling or The Ugly Duckling series, inspired by the classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
The softly coloured scene depicts a newly hatched white duckling beside its broken shell, watched over by a mother duck as a mallard swims nearby. Reeds, grasses and small pink flowers surround the nest, creating a delicate storybook-style wetland setting.
The reverse identifies this example as hand-numbered plate 3694. It also confirms the title, artist, 1985 issue date, first position in the series and production as a limited edition restricted to a maximum of 50 firing days.
Two factory-pierced holes on the reverse allow the plate to be fitted with a suitable hanging wire for wall display.
The plate is accompanied by its original Grande København – Porcelain of Denmark presentation box.
An attractive display piece for a collector of Danish porcelain, Karen Jean Bornholt artwork, Hans Christian Andersen memorabilia, bird-themed ceramics or vintage collector plates.
