Issued in 1986 (MCMLXXXVI), this is the first plate in "The Legend of King Arthur" series, featuring artwork by celebrated fantasy artist Richard Hook. The illustration captures the iconic moment when the young Arthur pulls the sword from the anvil under the watchful eye of Merlin, fulfilling the ancient prophecy that would make him King of Britain.
Produced by Wedgwood of England and officially authenticated by The Arthurian Society, this collector‘s plate was manufactured in a limited edition restricted to a maximum of 75 firing days, making it the inaugural issue in one of Wedgwood‘s most popular historical collector series.
