A beautiful vintage Aynsley Small Hexagonal Ginger Jar with its original matching lid, decorated in the discontinued Wild Tudor pattern.

The recognised specialist description for this particular form is the Small Hexagonal Ginger Jar & Lid. Its compact size means it may also be usefully described as a spice jar, small storage pot, tea caddy, sweet jar or decorative lidded trinket jar.

The jar has a rounded body divided into six softly defined sides, a matching hexagonal foot and a removable conical lid topped by a rounded finial. The geometric base and body distinguish it from Aynsley’s similar round Wild Tudor ginger jars.

It is decorated with the characteristic Wild Tudor arrangement of colourful English garden and wild flowers. The design includes pansies, rosebuds, thistles, blue flowers and smaller blossoms in shades of pink, red, purple, yellow, blue and green. A coordinating floral motif also decorates the lid.

Gold-coloured trim surrounds the edge of the lid and the top of the finial, adding an elegant finish to the white fine bone china.

The underside carries the blue Aynsley crown backstamp reading “Est. 1775, Aynsley, Wild Tudor, Fine Bone China, Made in England.”

Wild Tudor was produced from approximately 1991 to 2001. This dates the jar to the 1990s or very early 2000s, making it approximately 25–35 years old.

The jar would make an attractive decorative spice or storage pot, although it is not labelled for a specific ingredient. It could also be used to hold wrapped sweets, jewellery, keepsakes, dried potpourri or other small items.

It would look beautiful displayed on a kitchen dresser, mantelpiece, shelf, dressing table or alongside other Aynsley Wild Tudor pieces.

Condition

Good vintage condition overall.

No obvious chips, cracks or repairs can be seen in the photographs. No pronounced crazing, heavy staining or significant damage is visible.

The floral decoration remains bright. There appears to be some light age-related rubbing or unevenness to the gold-coloured trim around the lid and finial.

Grey and brown shelf marks, rubbing and underside discolouration are visible around the recessed foot rim. Light surface marks and small specks may also be present in keeping with the jar’s vintage age.

The original lid is present and appears to sit correctly on the jar.

Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description and condition report.
