A beautiful vintage Aynsley small ginger jar with its original fitted lid, decorated in the discontinued Wild Tudor pattern.

The closest specialist catalogue description for this form is the 4½-inch Ginger Jar. Because of its compact, rounded proportions, it is also commonly described as a covered sugar bowl, small lidded storage jar, trinket pot or decorative covered bowl.

The jar has a rounded, gently lobed body, a raised circular foot and a fitted domed lid topped with a small moulded finial. The softly shaped rim and body give the piece an attractive traditional appearance.

It is decorated with the distinctive Wild Tudor design, featuring a detailed arrangement of English garden and wild flowers. The decoration includes pansies, rosebuds, thistles and smaller flowers in shades of pink, red, lilac, blue, yellow and green.

Gold-coloured detailing finishes the edge of the lid, the finial and the lower foot rim.

The underside carries the blue Aynsley crown backstamp reading “Est. 1775, Aynsley, Wild Tudor, Fine Bone China, Made in England.”

The Wild Tudor pattern was produced from approximately 1991 to 2001. This dates the piece to the 1990s or very early 2000s, making it approximately 25–35 years old.

Originally intended as a small covered jar, it could be used as a sugar bowl, sweet jar, jewellery pot, keepsake container or decorative trinket box. It would also look beautiful displayed on a dresser, mantelpiece, sideboard or alongside other vintage Aynsley Wild Tudor china.

Condition

Good vintage condition overall.

No obvious chips, cracks or repairs can be seen in the photographs. No pronounced crazing or significant staining is visible on the main exterior.

There is visible age-related rubbing and unevenness to the gold-coloured trim around the lid, finial and lower foot. Light surface and handling marks are also present.

Grey and brown shelf marks, rubbing and discolouration can be seen around the underside foot rim. There also appears to be some light discolouration or residue around the inner opening and a few small marks inside the jar.

The lid is present and appears to sit correctly on the jar.

Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description and condition report.
