A beautiful vintage Aynsley Cake Plate in the discontinued Wild Tudor pattern, made in England from fine bone china.
The recognised specialist description for this particular piece is the 10½-inch Cake Plate, with the catalogue piece code CA. It has a broad, shallow serving form with a softly scalloped edge and subtle moulded lines radiating across the surface.
Unlike a conventional dinner plate, this piece has no pronounced raised tableware rim. It was intended primarily as a decorative cake, gateau or serving plate.
The design features a large central arrangement of English garden and wild flowers, surrounded by coordinating floral garlands. The decoration includes pansies, rosebuds, pinks, blue flowers, thistle-like blooms and delicate foliage in shades of pink, red, lilac, blue, yellow and green.
A fine gold-coloured line follows the scalloped outer edge and complements the pastel botanical decoration.
The underside carries a black printed Aynsley crown backstamp reading “Est. 1775, Aynsley, Wild Tudor, Fine Bone China, Made in England.” The backstamp identifies the maker, pattern, material and English manufacture but does not provide an exact production year.
The Wild Tudor pattern was produced from approximately 1991 to 2001. This dates the plate to the 1990s or around the turn of the millennium, making it approximately 25–35 years old.
It would be ideal for serving cakes, pastries, biscuits, sandwiches, desserts or afternoon-tea treats. Its detailed floral decoration also makes it suitable for display on a plate stand, dresser, mantelpiece or kitchen shelf.
The substantial size and recognised Wild Tudor pattern give it appeal for collectors of Aynsley china and vintage English floral tableware.
