A beautiful vintage Aynsley powder box or lidded trinket pot in the discontinued Little Sweetheart pattern.
The most reliable specialist description for this particular form is a round powder box with lid, although it is also commonly described as a large trinket box, jewellery box or vanity pot. It has softly fluted sides, a matching domed lid and a distinctive upright butterfly-shaped finial.
The white fine bone china is decorated with delicate pastel floral sprays in pink, blue and lilac, accompanied by soft green foliage and small butterflies. The butterfly finial is finished with gold-coloured detailing, creating an attractive focal point on the lid.
The printed backstamp reads “Est. 1775 Aynsley, Made in England, Fine English Bone China, Little Sweetheart ©84.” The ©84 mark relates to the design copyright. Specialist replacement dealers generally catalogue the Little Sweetheart pattern as having been produced from approximately 1986 to 1996, placing this example in the late 1980s or early 1990s.
